Writing a Memoir
Write a memoir about an event that had a significant and meaningful impact on your life. Focus on a single
event and use the various patterns and techniques you have studied to engage your audience. In particular,
focus on setting the scene for your audience with clear and vivid details and descriptions. The memoir
should include the following:
A title page
A creative title
An introduction (one paragraph)
A body (three paragraphs)
A conclusion (one paragraph)
Submission Requirements:
Submit your responses in a Microsoft Word document with the following specifications:
Font: Arial, 12-point
Spacing: Double
Format: APA style with a title page and a header
Length: 5 paragraphs, 2–3 pages (excluding the title and references pages)
Note: You will have three attempts to work on this assessment. The instructor will issue a grade on the first
draft submission. After receiving comments and feedback from your instructor, you have the option to
revise the essay and submit for regrading for up to two revisions. If a second or third attempt is not
submitted, the grade for the first attempt will be scored as the final grade for the assessment.
Evaluation Criteria:
Your submission will be evaluated against the following criteria using the essay rubric:
Did you include an introductory paragraph, concluding paragraph, and three body paragraphs (each
constructed with a topic sentence, three supporting detail sentences, and concluding sentence)?
Do transitions effectively connect the ideas in the body of the essay from one paragraph to
another?
Is your title creative and engaging?
Is your main idea/implied main idea statement well developed?
Are the main points developed with vivid descriptions and details?
