English Help With English Homework
Process:
Over the course of the semester, we’ll work on brainstorming, outlining and drafting this essay. Your final draft will be turned in as part of your portfoilo at the end of the semester.
Background:
Many novice writers assume that completing an essay or other written work is all about sitting down and typing out ideas until the minimum length has been reached. Professional and experienced writers, on the other hand, understand that writing is a recursive process, one where there are many different steps that can overlap and repeat themselves. More than that, writing is not linear, meaning that it doesn’t go from beginning to middle to end. For example, you might begin with a pre-writing exercise, discuss your topic with two or three other people, write a body paragraph, go back and write an introduction, only to change your topic as you continue to brainstorm. Ultimately, developing a strong sense of your best practices as a writer will help you succeed both professionally and academically.
Assignment:
Write an essay in which you discuss your best practices as a writer. While it is true that some essays must be written quickly, thus having very limited processes, this paper will examine your ideal situation. Assuming that you have a meaningful amount of time, examine your ideal writing process. Over the course of your paper, you can compare best and worst-case scenarios, your previous experiences, and what steps you can take to succeed as a writer.
Possible Topics:
This essay can go in many different directions, but a discussion and analysis of your writing process is key. For example, you might contrast how you craft essays in timed writing situations versus how you might write when you have two days or two months.
