Exeed industries are a leading Abu Dhabi based group. This company produces many
things related to the building materials and fibers, agriculture business, in addition to that,
international investments and this is important to survive nowadays in the market. This industry
employs over 800 workers. In our field trip, they showed us two important products which they
produce. These two products are the precast and the other product which has a white fluffy form
that is used in a method called Hydroponics which is a subset of hydroculture that is used in
growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. For the first product
which is precast it needs sophisticated processes, heavy materials, and vehicles because it is
extremely heavy. In the first step they just put the steel bars as a base of the precast, then they
cover it with the cement by red containers to place it over the steel bars (refer to figure1), the
steel bars are used to make the cement strong and stay for longer time, and for the last step after
the precast becomes harder they use a blade to cut it in smaller parts based on the demand of the
customer (refer to fig.2), but there are many steps in between such as making the template
(molding) to put the cement on it which needs many workers and time to complete that task. The
templates are used to give the cement its shape and make it stronger since the steel bars will be
inside the cement. They use heavy machines to carry the finished precast to the heavy vehicle
like trucks for distribution (refer to fig.3). Moreover, this industry has a store of raw materials
which helps them saving money and time instead of keeping them far away from the industry.
As you can see from the picture above, this is the second product which is considered to
be a new product in the Middle East. This product is actually hydroponics mixed with sand
which is useful for hot weather countries because it keeps the water for 3 to 4 days without
needing to irrigate the plants daily. The market applications for this product are 1) Home and
garden, 2) landscaping, 3) sports and leisure, and 4) hydroponics. This product can be used for
25 years without changing it. It is also important at the industrial level because there is a lack of
water, so they try to do water and recourses allocation (utilization) by saving up to 50% water.
There are some product applications for the hydroponics mixture which are 1) flakes, 2) mobile
application, 3) special applications, and 4) retail application.
Mr.bilal, the guide at the tour, gave us a lecture about the costing methodologies at
tarsheed industries; he explained the product flow cycle and the costs of shipping materials. For
example, the components that make the white fluffy form are petrol based which are imported
from Holland. Moreover, he showed us the costing methodologies which are followed at Exeed

and those included “FIFO” which is first in first out, moreover “LIFO” which is last in first out.
In addition to that, some explanations about the cash flow were discussed.
In conclusion, this field trip was very useful because it allowed us to apply what we
learnt in the class in real life. Although reaching the plant of Exeed was a bit tiring, it was a very
useful knowledge-expanding experience. I would like to thank each one who contributed in
