Case
Assignment
Write a well-organized and
well-supported essay with an original thesis based on the five readings and one
video for Module 3. The essay must include no less than SIX citations
from these readings and/or video.
A well-organized essay has a
beginning, middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include
an opening sentence to grab your reader’s attention. Follow the opening
sentence with a brief background on the topic or situation. In this case, it
would be an explanation of the “me” society we live in today. The last sentence
of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis states the main point
of the essay.
A well-supported essay includes
supporting points, details, and examples. For this essay, you must decide the
best way to organize the body of the paper. Each body paragraph must have a
topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph.
This essay
must include no less than SIX citations from these readings and/or video.Citations are to be a combination of
direct quotations and paraphrased quotations with or without the author’s name.
No others sources are to be used for this assignment.
The conclusion typically summarizes
the main points of the essay and/or closes with a lasting impression that
connects the reader to their world. In this case, where do we go from here?
The essay must also include a
Reference List that includes the readings and/or video quoted in the essay.
Be sure to proofread your essay and
edit for proper grammar, punctuation, diction (word choice), and spelling, as
errors in sentence skills will lower a final grade. A grade will be determined
based on the Module 3 Case expectations and the Trident University General
Education rubric for English.
Papers must be double-spaced in
Times or Times New Roman font (12 cpi) with standard one-inch margins.
The first person “I” is
not used in a formal essay, nor is the passive “you.” In place of
“you,” “one” may be used.

Stanhope, H. (2010, August 11). How
low can you go: living on minimum-wage in America. American Living, 1,
63+.
This article explains the author’s experiential research in which she attempts
to ascertain whether it is currently possible for an individual to live on a
minimum wage in America. After shadowing a waitress, a maid in a cleaning
service, and a Walmart sales employee for six months, Stanhope summarizes her
experiences and reflects on her findings, including the individuals’
relationships with fellow workers and their financial struggles.
While my paper addresses single parenting, Stanhope’s article is especially
effective in the portion of my essay that addresses employment. One of my
supporting points addresses the difficulty single parents’ face as they attempt
to balance rearing a family while providing financially. Specific quotes from
the workers who were shadowed will provide support for my points through real
life examples. Further, Stanhope provides scholarly research on the economy and
the rising cost of living in America today, which also lends support and
credibility to my thesis.
